After spending 25 years with the Calgary Police Service, he continued his DIE journey, where he has worked for the Alberta Human Rights Commission and many organizations seeking equity.
Cam has been gifted the Blackfoot name of Mikotsapinukum, meaning Red Morning, for his years of service to the Indigenous community, which he proudly and humbly carries in his work. He has spent several decades as a strong advocate and leader of DIE initiatives, training, strategies, and programs, as well as an international speaker in the field.
Cam has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Jewish Repairing the World Award, YMCA Peace Medal, Baha’i Community Racial Harmony Award, the Alberta Outstanding Contribution to Community Adult Learning Award, and the Calgary Police Service Chief’s Award for Community Service. Under his leadership and guidance, the Calgary Police Service received the Calgary Immigrant Aid Society’s Immigrant of Distinction Corporate Diversity Award and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Diversity Award. While board chair for 12 CSI and the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee, the organizations received Alberta Community Justice Awards. In 2023, Rotary International acknowledged Cam as a Person of Action: Champion of Inclusion, and that same year, he was presented with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal by the Province of Alberta.
